The regular meeting of the faculty of the Department of Statistics was held in C-301 Padelford Hall at 12:30pm, September 23rd, 2019. Daniel Pollack, Interim Chair, presided at the meeting. Kristine Chan was recording secretary.

Chair’s Remarks
Daniel Pollack reported there will be no faculty retreat this Autumn quarter. Planning for the retreat will be revisited in the Spring.

He also provided updates and timelines on the two ongoing searches: Full Professor & Chair and Assistant Professor. 

Jon Wakefield announced that the first Teaching and Curriculum Committee (TCC) will be held the following week on Monday, September 30, 2019 at 12:30pm in C-301. There is nothing to report.

Committee Reports
Ranjini Grove reported that the B.S. Admissions Committee (Ranjini Grove, Yen-Chi Chen, and Tamre Cardoso) they have received 150 applications and have admitted 55 students into the Undergraduate program. She also mentioned that diversity has been an issue with the applicant pool we receive since there are not many underrepresented minorities applying. 

Adrian Dobra reported that the Data Science M.S. program received 886 applicants and have admitted 59 new students into their program. In comparison with past numbers in 2017 and 2018, the applicant pool continue to increase.

There being no new business, the meeting passed into the executive session at 1:23pm and was adjourned at 2:00pm.
