Faculty Meeting - Monday, January 27, 2020

A regular meeting of the faculty of the Department of Statistics was held in C-301 Padelford Hall at 12:30pm, January 27th, 2020. Daniel Pollack, Interim Chair, presided at the meeting. Kristine Chan was recording secretary.

The meeting began with approval of previous meeting minutes from November 8, 2019, November 18, 2019, December 2, 2019, and December 9, 2019.

Chair’s Remarks
Faculty Hiring Updates: Abel Rodriguez has accepted an offer as our department chair. He will begin his appointment on September 1, 2020. Another offer will be extended to Eric Laber as a Full Professor.

Teaching Preferences for 2020-2021: Chan and Pollack will conduct a Catalyst survey to gather information on teaching preferences. 

Statistics Promotion and Tenure Guidelines: Pollack asked faculty to review the College guidelines carefully to see if our department would like to simply affirm the guidelines that the College of Arts & Science has written or if we would like to craft our own as long as it aligns with the faculty code, Academic Human Resources guidelines and the College of Arts & Sciences guidelines. 

Announcements
Faculty Senate Activity news has been postponed to a later date (specifically 2-4 weeks from today) to allow time for the discussion of the Assistant Professor search.

Committee Reports
GSRs reported the students’ interactions and feedback on each Assistant Professor search candidate.

Adjournment
There being new business, the meeting passed into the executive session at 12:52pm and was adjourned at 2:00pm.
