Faculty Meeting

The regular meeting for the faculty of the Department of Statistics was held in a hybrid format via Zoom and in Padelford Hall, room C-301 at 12:45 p.m., February 23, 2026. Abel Rodriguez, Department Chair, presided at the meeting. Kristine Chan was recording secretary. 

Announcement 

• MS Graduation: The ceremony for MS graduates completing their degrees in Winter 2026 will be held on Friday, March 20, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. 
• Department Graduation: The ceremony for all graduates will be held on Friday, June 12, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. 
  

New Business 

• Discussion of Statistics Certificate Proposal: The Chair shared a draft of the full proposal again for additional feedback. No further comments were offered. He reported that the preliminary proposal has been submitted to the Graduate School and that he is awaiting feedback. Following that review, an electronic vote will be distributed. If approved, the expectation is that the proposal will take effect in Autumn 2026. 
• Lecturer Part-Time (multi-year) search update: The applicant’s deadline for full consideration was Sunday, February 15, 2026. The appointments committee is currently reviewing applications. The top candidates will be discussed at the next faculty meeting. 
• AI Minor Discussion: The Chair updated the faculty on the new AI Minor Working Group in which he serves.  The faculty provided recommendations and feedback to help the Department Chair with his work.

The meeting proceeded to the executive session at 1:45 p.m., and then was later adjourned at 1:50 p.m.
