Faculty Meeting

The regular meeting for the faculty of the Department of Statistics was held in a hybrid format via Zoom and in Padelford Hall, room C-301 at 12:30pm, February 3, 2025. Abel Rodriguez, Department Chair, presided at the meeting. Kristine Chan was recording secretary. 

New Business 

• Opportunities and Challenges for the Department: The Department Chair presented slides that addressed challenges that our department will face in the coming years due to (1) budget shortfall that WA state is facing, (2) enrollment trends within the university, (3) changing disciplinary norms across the US, and (4) possible changes to immigration policies. He touched along the topics of the College’s Rethinking Arts & Sciences website, faculty teaching loads, path of ASE salaries, and the size MS program. The goal of the discussion was not only to be informative but to brainstorm sustainable plans with the faculty on how to move the department forward through the next few years.
