Committee Report

  • DICE on Summer & Autumn 2024 Activities: The DICE Chair shared the documents pertaining the UW Land Acknowledgement and the Tribal Exchange Network Group (TXG).

DICE proposed the adoption of the UW’s Land Acknowledgement at the department level.  The committee also proposed guidelines for the use of the Land Acknowledgement, once it is adopted.  Adoption of the university land acknowledgement was later voted on electronically via Microsoft Forms and was approved by the eligible voting faculty.

The collaboration with the Tribal Exchange Network Group was an initiative in which the DICE Chair and a group of graduate students worked on over the Summer. The initiative was successful, and it is likely to continue for at least another year.

New Business

  • Awards and Honors on Department Website: The Director of IT Operations presented the new Faculty Awards page and did a brief walkthrough on how it functions. In addition, he showed how the awards displayed on the page can appear on the individual faculty’s profile page. Faculty will have the ability to edit their information on the apps.stat.washington.edu page and/or submit a request to office@stat.washington.edu.

  • Departmental Code of Conduct: The Department Chair has proposed the creation of a Code of Conduct with the help of faculty, PhD students, postdoctoral scholar, and staff. This statement will strive to communicate the ideals of our department regarding individuals fostering social interactions with each other. The Chair aims to identify members of the working group in Autumn quarter 2024 and have the discussion and approval during Spring quarter 2025.

  • Methodology for Departmental Service Assignments: A survey to determine the effort associated with various service roles will be coming in late Autumn or early Winter quarter. The expectation is that this survey will help increase fairness in service assignments.

Adjournment

There being no other items to discuss, the meeting was later adjourned at 1:30pm.
