Faculty meetingThe regular meeting of the faculty of the Department of Statistics was held in a hybrid format via Zoom and in Padelford Hall, room C-301 at 12:30pm, March 25, 2024. Abel Rodriguez, Department Chair, presided at the meeting. Kristine Chan was recording secretary.
The meeting started with all participants sharing updates on personal news and achievements over the winter quarter or Spring break to allow the faculty, staff, and graduate student representatives to get acquainted/reacquainted.
Announcements
CS&SS 25th Anniversary Celebration will be happening in May 16-17, 2024: Details of the conference schedule can be found here.
Statistics Department Graduation will be happening on June 7, 2024: An RSVP has been sent to the faculty over e-mail. Details can be found here.
New Business
Departmental Bylaws: The Chair shared a folder that contained a draft of the departmental bylaws along with the slides with general notes on the draft and the process moving forward. The Chair indicated that he will open a one-week window for comments before forwarding to the Dean’s office for review. Once approved by the Dean’s office, an electronic vote will be held. The final version will be published on the Department’s and College of Arts & Science’s website.
PhD Admission Guidelines: The Chair shared a document with an updated draft set of PhD admission principles for the department. An earlier version of this document was reviewed back in the 11/27 faculty meeting. The Chair asked the faculty for feedback. There was some disagreement about the content of items 3 (Faculty Funding: Not a Determinant in Admissions) and 5 (Language Requirements) of the proposed principles. The item was tabled for future discussion.
Adjournment
There being no other items to discuss, the meeting transitioned to an executive session at 1:30pm, and was later adjourned at 1:56pm.
