Faculty Meeting

The regular meeting of the faculty of the Department of Statistics was held in a hybrid format via Zoom and in Padelford Hall, room C-301 at 12:30pm, November 27, 2023. Abel Rodriguez, Department Chair, presided at the meeting. Kristine Chan was recording secretary. 

New Business 

The faculty were given the opportunity to review the 10/2 and 11/20 faculty meeting minutes for approval. None provided comments during the meeting. The minutes were later voted on electronically via Microsoft Forms and approved by the eligible voting faculty. 

Committee Reports 

PhD Admission Guidelines discussion: The Chair shared a document that summarizes the department’s PhD admission principles. The goal of this document is to clearly state the department’s commitment to recruiting, supporting, and retaining a strong and diverse group of PhD students. Faculty shared their input at length, however, given that there was not enough time, further discussion on this subject matter was deferred to a future faculty meeting. 

Adjunct and Affiliate faculty appointment policy: The Chair shared a folder that contained a draft of our department’s written policy on Adjunct and Affiliate appointments as well as policies from other UW departments. The goal of the written policy for our department was to clarify the department’s expectations on appointing and reappointing individuals. The policy was later voted on electronically via Microsoft Forms and approved by the eligible voting faculty.
