Announcement

Faculty meeting for 11/29 will be canceled.

New Business

2021-2022 PhD student handbook: Two topics from the previous department meeting were brought back for discussion because the proposals put to an electronic vote were not approved by the faculty: (1) requirements for faculty to serve as members and as Chairs of Supervisory committees, and (2) requirements for faculty to serve on reading committees. The discussion yielded changes to the original wording of both motions, and the revised wording was put to a new electronic vote through Catalyst.

PhD Program requirement changes for 2022-2023: Four changes were briefly discussed: (1) Turning the CSSS track into a transcriptable program option, (2) Merging the MLBD and ADS tracks into a single transcriptable track by possibly changing the name of the ADS, (3) defining more clearly what the departmental expectations are for General Exam, potentially adding a writing component to the exam, and (4) removing the requirement that students who are given a waiver for the M.S. Theory Exam need to attain a 3.3 GPA in the Advanced Statistical Inference requirement (STAT 581/582/53 sequence), possibly leading to a change in the way M.S. Theory Exam waivers are decided. No decisions were made, and discussion will continue at the next department meeting.

Adjournment

There being no other items to discuss the meeting was adjourned at 2:00pm.
