The regular meeting of the faculty of the Department of Statistics was held on Zoom at 12:30pm, January 4, 2021. Abel Rodriguez, Department Chair, presided at the meeting. Kristine Chan was recording secretary.

New Business
The meeting started with all participants sharing updates on personal news to allow the faculty, staff, and graduate student representatives to get reacquainted.

Minutes from the previous faculty meeting (11/23) were reviewed, voted on, and approved by the eligible voting faculty who were present.

Updates on the tenure-track Assistant Professor search: The Chair discussed the status of the search and outstanding offers from other institutions to a few of the candidates.  This motivated a discussion with the faculty about moving the Tier 3 interviews up to an earlier date. The faculty agreed with moving the Tier 3 interviews up to February 4 & 5 and the consensus out of the discussion was that after all of the Tier 2 interviews were done with the eight candidates in January, we would discuss and vote on who would be the six candidates to be invited for the Tier 3 interviews in the faculty meeting happening on Monday, February 1. Then on Monday, February 8, we will have another faculty meeting to decide who to give offers to.

Executive Session
Faculty discussed appointing, reappointing and promoting a number of adjunct and affiliate faculty along with renewing a lecturer full-time – temporary and appointing a retired adjunct professor to an emeritus status in our department. The catalyst poll was sent out shortly after the faculty meeting was done.

There being no other items to discuss, the meeting passed to an executive session at 1:01pm and was adjourned at 1:32pm.
