The Department of Statistics is pleased to welcome Abel Rodriguez, and to congratulate Ranjini Grove and Emilija Perković on their new positions!
Abel Rodriguez will be starting his new position as Professor and Chair of the Department of Statistics, effective September 1, 2020. He received his Ph.D. in Statistics and Decision Sciences from Duke University in 2007. He is currently an Associate Director to the Center for Data, Discovery and Decisions, and a Professor in the Baskin School of Engineering at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC). From 2017 to 2019, Prof. Rodriguez served as Associate Dean for Graduate Affairs in Baskin School of Engineering. His research interests include Bayesian statistics and machine learning, especially nonparametric methods, spatial temporal models, network analysis and extreme value theory.
Ranjini Grove has started her new position as a Full-Time Senior Lecturer this month. She received her Ph.D. in Statistics from Cornell University in 1995. Dr. Grove started in our department as a Lecturer Part-Time in 2011. Since then, she has taken on a number of leadership roles in the department, while remaining focused on students and contributing to their academic experience in meaningful ways. In her new role, Ranjini will continue serving as Undergraduate Program Coordinator in the Department of Statistics.
Emilija Perković is currently an Acting Assistant Professor in our department. She will begin a new position as an Assistant Professor, effective September 16, 2020. She completed her Ph.D. in Statistics at ETH Zürich in 2018 under the supervision of Marloes Maathuis. She received her B.Sc. in Mathematics from the University of Belgrade in 2012 and M.Sc. in Statistics from ETH Zürich 2014. Her research interests are focused on causal inference from the perspective of graphical models. A large part of her Ph.D. thesis was on causal inference through covariate adjustment.
