We are pleased to announce that the International Biometric Society (IBS) will name Dr. Elizabeth Thompson an Honorary Life Member.  Honorary Life Members have all the rights and privileges of a regular member but are exempt from the payment of annual dues. The announcement of the newly elected Honorary Life Member will be made by the IBS President on July 12, 2022 during the award ceremony of the International Biometric Conference in Riga, Latvia.

Dr. Elizabeth Thompson is currently a Professor Emerita in the Department of Statistics at the University of Washington. She earned her Ph.D. in Statistics from the University of Cambridge, United Kingdom in 1974. She joined the University of Washington as a Professor in the Department of Statistics in 1985. During her time as Professor, she had a joint appointment with the Department of Biostatistics in 1988 to 2004, and adjunct appointments with the Department of Biostatistics in 2006 to 2018 and the Department of Genome Sciences in 2000 to 2018. She served as Chair of the Department of Statistics in 1989 to 1994 and again in 2011 to 2014. She retired and was appointment Professor Emeritus in 2018.


Dr. Thompson has always been an active member of the Biometric Society, first serving as a member of the British Region Committee in 1984 to 1985. From 1997 to 1999, she served on the Executive Committee of West North American Region (WNAR) and was President in 1998. She was a member of the Council of the International Biometric Society in 2006 to 2013, and served as President from 2016 to 2017.
