Zaid Harchaoui, professor of Statistics in the College of Arts & Sciences and adjunct professor in the Paul G. Allen School of Computer Science & Engineering in the College of Engineering, discusses in the Perspectives newsletter unexpected findings in his research investigations on generative AI frontier models.

Harchaoui focuses on research at the intersection of statistics and computing, with an emphasis on machine learning research. Collaborating with colleagues in statistics, mathematics, computer science, and engineering, he explores what AI models can do well, where they fall short, and why.

The research collaborations are part of the NSF SCALE project, and of the NSF institutes IFML and IFDS.
