We are pleased to announce that the King Baudouin Foundation has selected Thomas Richardson to be a co-recipient of the inaugural Rousseeuw Prize for Statistics.
The Rousseeuw Prize for Statistics is awarded in even years for outstanding methodological contributions or tools that have had significant impact and found wide application in statistical practice, with relevance to society. The prize focuses on the innovation itself; thus, it is awarded to several individuals who collaborated to bring this about. The total award is one million U.S. dollars.
Awarded this year for the first time, the Rousseeuw Prize recognizes the pioneering work on Causal Inference and its applications in Medicine and Public Health of a team led by Professor James M. Robins (Harvard, Biostatistics & Epidemiology). In addition to Professor Richardson, the other members of the team are Professor Miguel Hernán (Harvard, Epidemiology), Professor Andrea Rotnitzky (UW, Biostatistics) and Professor Eric Tchetgen Tchetgen (UPenn, Statistics).
The award citation describes the many contributions of Robins and the other laureates, including Marginal Structural Models, Doubly Robust methods, and Structural Nested Models. Richardson’s work on causal graphical models, including Single World Intervention Graphs (SWIGs), and Nested Markov models, is also highlighted.
Upon learning of the Award, Richardson said, “I am humbled, delighted, and amazed to accept this honor with Andrea, Eric, Jamie, and Miguel. I am very proud to be a part of such an insightful, talented, and impactful group.”
The prize will be presented at an award ceremony on Wednesday, October 12, 2022, at the University of Leuven, Belgium. More details here.
