We are pleased to announce that Peter Gao, current UW Statistics Ph.D. student, is one of the five recipients of the 2022 ASA Student Paper Award competition for his paper entitled "Smoothed Model-Assisted Small Area Estimation". The award is jointly sponsored by the American Statistical Association (ASA) Social Statistics Section (SSS), Government Statistics Section (GSS), and Survey Research Methods Section (SRMS).

Every year, the ASA Consortium of Sections GSS/SRMS/SSS offers five awards to students and recent graduates for their papers on new statistical methodology or creative applications of statistical analyses to problems, issues, or policy questions pertinent to the subject areas of one of the sponsoring sections. The student award recipients will present their work in a topic-contributed session and receive their award at the 2022 Joint Statistical Meeting (JSM), which will be held in Washington, D.C..
