The Department of Statistics at the University of Washington is firmly committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion. To this end, during the academic year 2022-2023, we are running the pre-application review service (PARS) initiative. Current Statistics Ph.D. students and will review and provide feedback on a prospective applicant's statement of purpose, personal statement, and resume or curriculum vitae (CV). The process is open to students applying to any graduate program in Statistics or Biostatistics, whether at UW or any other U.S. university.

We intend to offer feedback to as many applicants as possible. However, in the case of high demand, we will prioritize applicants on a first-come, first-served basis. If you are a prospective PhD student and would like to participate in PARS, you can submit your complete first draft application materials through this form by November 18, 2022 (11:59 pm PST). PARS volunteers aim to respond within a couple of weeks of submission, and by November 28, 2022 (11:59 pm PST) at the latest. Submitting to PARS does not guarantee feedback, as we may close this form early if volunteer feedback capacity is reached. Applicants will be notified if the feedback capacity is reached.

Applying to PARS does not guarantee admission to the Statistics PhD program, and is entirely separate from the admission process. Participating in PARS does not obligate you to apply to graduate studies at the University of Washington. Participation in PARS or information submitted to the program will not be shared with the admissions committee or faculty. Information may be aggregated and anonymized to evaluate the impact of this program, but individual responses will not be used.
