Each year in the fall, the Department of Statistics awards a talented graduate student the Dorothy M. Gilford teaching award. The Dorothy M. Gilford teaching award recognizes outstanding performances by a graduate teaching assistant during the past year.

We are proud to announce the 2023-24 award recipient, Yikun Zhang.

Dorothy M. Gilford teaching award recipient:

Yikun Zhang

“Yikun did an exceptional job as a TA for STAT 548/CSE 547. This course draws students with highly varying backgrounds from all over campus. Yikun went above and beyond his TA duties, including creating new materials for students to brush up on linear algebra and advising students on course projects. Many students shared with me how much they appreciated Yikun’s teaching, patience, helpfulness, and actionable suggestions. Yikun has been our head TA and is a true “Godsend” for any instructor. Across ~100 TA’s I’ve worked with, Yikun’s dedication to high-quality teaching and learning is second to none. I believe that the Dorothy M. Gilford award would be a fitting recognition for these much-appreciated contributions.”
