Programs of Study
The Department of Statistics offers a variety of undergraduate and graduate programs:
- A Bachelor of Science in Statistics, with three options: mathematical statistics, applied statistics and data science.
- A full-time Master of Science in Statistics.
- A part-time/concurrent Master of Science in Statistics.
- A Doctoral degree in Statistics with five options: General Statistics, Statistical Genetics, Statistics in the Social Sciences, Advanced Data Science, and Machine Learning and Big Data.
In addition, the department is deeply involved in a number of interdisciplinary programs on campus:
- The Bachelor of Science in Applied and Computational Mathematical Sciences, jointly run with Mathematics, Applied Mathematics and Computer Science and Engineering.
- The Master of Science in Data Science, jointly run with Applied Mathematics, Biostatistics, Computer Science and Engineering, the Information School and Human Centered Design & Engineering.
- The Data Science Minor, jointly run with over 25 other campus departments.
Courses
The courses offered by the department cover a variety of topics in statistics, data science, machine learning and artificial intelligence. We offer both service courses (at the graduate as well as the undergraduate level) that provide introductions to key concepts in statistics and satisfy requirements for many academic programs, and well as intermediate and advanced coursework taken mostly by students in Statistics, Biostatistics, and other aligned programs such as Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science and Engineering, Business, Economics and Sociology.
